Prishtina
Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo, has a population of approximately 227,794 residents. The city hosts a vibrant and diverse community, including a growing number of international residents. Women make up around 50% of Prishtina’s population.
The district of Prishtina includes several surrounding municipalities, bringing the total population to around 514,223 inhabitants[1] .
- Podujeva (72,056 inhabitants) is a bordering area characterized by agriculture and trade.
- Lipjan (55,565 inhabitants) is known for its strong agricultural sector, as well as growing tourism and industrial activities. Its strategic location makes it an important transportation hub.
- Fushë Kosova (63,870 inhabitants) has a vibrant young population and dynamic demographic trends. It is home to various minority communities engaged in agriculture, trade, and industries.
- Obiliq (22,945 inhabitants) is an industrial area with a strong presence of agriculture. As a young municipality, it has a predominantly young population and a significant number of Serbian-speaking residents.
- Graçanica (18,428 inhabitants) is a Serbian-majority municipality known for its cultural and historical significance. It is home to the famous Graçanica Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Gllogoc / Drenas (49,001 inhabitants) is an important industrial and economic center, known for its metallurgical industry and mining activities. The municipality has a growing business sector and a strong tradition of agriculture.
- Novobërdë/Artanë (4,564 inhabitants) is a historically rich area, home to the medieval Novobërdë Fortress. The municipality is known for its natural beauty, tourism potential, and traditional agriculture.

EDUCATION IN PRISHTINA
The Prishtina metropolitan area is home to numerous upper secondary schools, offering a variety of general, technical, and vocational education programs. Additionally, several vocational training institutions provide specialized education in fields such as information technology, business, and healthcare, enhancing employment opportunities for young people.
Prishtina is a major academic center in the region, with the University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina" being the largest and most prestigious higher education institution in Kosovo, enrolling over 40,000 students. Other important institutions include private universities and specialized colleges, strengthening Prishtina’s reputation as an educational hub.
YOUTH IN PRISHTINA
In 2023, the youth unemployment rate (ages 15–24) in Prishtina was approximately 30%, reflecting broader economic challenges in Kosovo. That same year, around 18% of young people in Kosovo were classified as NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training), highlighting the need for more youth-oriented employment initiatives.
To support young people's education and career development, Prishtina offers various programs, including vocational training courses, internships, and university career services. These efforts aim to improve job prospects and facilitate the transition of young people into the workforce.
