Helsinki
Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is located in southern Finland on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. As the administrative centre of the country, it is home to the Parliament of Finland and the ministries. Helsinki is also an important centre of business and culture. The city has a population of approximately 665,000. Of the residents, 75 % speak Finnish as their native language, 6 % speak Swedish, and 20 % speak some other language.

Education in Helsinki
Helsinki offers a wide range of education and training for people of all ages. There are 15 general upper secondary schools in Helsinki. The city is also a home to numerous schools where languages other than Finnish or Swedish are spoken. In addition to the daytime general upper secondary school for young people, Helsinki has three general upper secondary schools for adults (aikuislukio).Helsinki Vocational College (Stadin ammattiopisto) is the largest vocational institute in Finland, with 14 locations. In addition to this, Helsinki is home to 8 private vocational institutes and 3 institutes for special vocational education.There are four universities and five universities of applied sciences in Helsinki. The universities include the University of Helsinki, University of the Arts Helsinki, Hanken School of Economics, and the National Defence University. Additionally, Aalto University’s main campus is located in Espoo, but it has some operations in Helsinki. The universities of applied sciences include Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Arcada University of Applied Sciences, Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Diak), and Humak University of Applied Sciences.
Youth in Helsinki
The youth unemployment rate (ages 18–24) in Helsinki was 8.8% in 2023. In 2022, 12.3% of young people were either unemployed, not participating in training, or not engaged in military service (NEET). (THL Sotkanet)
