National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is the largest state institution of higher learning in Greece, and among the largest universities in Europe. It has a student body of about 125,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students with over 2.000 academic staff members. The team includes Prof. Dr. Elias G. Carayannis is the leader WP5 dedicated to the research integration and synthesis and co-leads WP6 for dissemination, communication and outreach. He is a visiting Full Professor at the Department of Economics of the NKUA and a Full Professor at the George Washington University School of Business. He is a highly cited researcher, with a record of 25,987 citations in Google Scholar and an h- index of 74. His teaching and research activities focus on strategic Government-University-Industry R&D partnerships, the role of a knowledge economy and knowledge management, governance and higher education, technology road-mapping, transfer and commercialization, international science and technology policy, technological entrepreneurship, and regional economic development. Elias is assisted by Prof. Pantelis C. Kostis, an Assistant Professor of Economic Development in the Department of Economics and a specialist in education and human capital investments. Prof. Carayannis and Assist. Prof. Kostis are the Editors of a Book Series in Palgrave MacMillan, while Prof. Carayannis the Editor in Book Series in Edward Elgar and Springer, where the monograph prepared from the project can be submitted. Prof. Carayannis serves as Editor and Assist. Prof. Kostis as Associate Editor on the Scientific Journal “Journal of the Knowledge Economy”, where outcomes of the project can be submitted.

Prof. Dr. Elias G. Carayannis

Team Leader

Prof. Elias G. Carayannis is Professor of Science, Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Founder and Co-Director of the Global and Entrepreneurial Finance Research Institute (GEFRI) and Director of the European Union Research Center (EURC) at the School of Business at George Washington University. Prof. Carayannis’ teaching and research activities focus on strategic R&D partnerships between government, university and industry, technology roadmapping, technology transfer and commercialization, international science and technology policy, technological entrepreneurship and regional economic development.

He has published numerous journal articles in IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management, Research Policy, Journal of R&D Management, among others, as well as over fifty technical books on science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. He is editor of the journals Springer JKEC, Springer JIAE and IGI IJSESD and co-editor of numerous other journals.
